Worm Tower with Roof (3 tray)
The worm bin recommended by Urban Worm Girl is made of recycled plastic. It is comprised of 3 stacking trays built to house red worms, bedding and your kitchen scraps for composting. Additional trays are easily added if your kitchen scraps exceed the space provided within the 3 trays. Our worm bin also includes a wind resistant and pet proof roof.
Roof and additional trays
This uniquely designed roof can be added to many other commercial bins. The angled roof design helps to divert wind and allow rain to properly drain off without endangering worms. All the while, this roof allows full air circulation keeping worms strong and healthy. The additional tray sits atop of your working tray to give the worms their next new home. No additional assembly is required.
Red Wiggler Worms
most worms you may dig up or find in your garden
are not "composters". The worms that burrow through your dirt are soil
dwellers often referred to as "earthworkers". These commonly seen
"earthworkers" perform the important job of mixing our soil not transforming
our waste into a nutrient rich substance. Red Worms can process (eat) large
amounts of organic material, reproduce rapidly, and adapt to various
environments. They are the most commonly used worm for home composting.
Worms are available in several different increments depending on the size of
your household as well as the amount of kitchen waste you may have. Choose
what suits household needs. Just remember these simple facts:
1 pound = approximately 1,000 worms
1,000 worms consumes an average individuals kitchen scraps
Larger quantities of worms available per additional pound upon request
Coconut coir bedding
When added to water, this fiber brick creates a thriving environment for the worms. It retains moisture and mixes well with other beddings such as newspaper, dry leaves or soil. It has been said that the worms find it quite tasty as well.
In additon these bricks are a by-product of the coconut industry in Sri Lanka. Exporting the light-weight condensed bricks for use in other countries not only provides income to the local population, it helps to solve the waste disposal problem that exist in Sri Lanka.
