The worm bin included in this package is made from 100% recycled plastic and is comprised of 3 stacking trays that are designed specifically for processing paper and food scraps with composting worms. Maximum worm capacity is 8-10 pounds of worms, eating 4-5 pounds per day. Bin also includes a roof that is wind resistant and pet proof. Bin measures 15" square and 24" high. Additional trays can be added, raising the bin by 3" per tray. Maximum 6 total trays. Please note, worms require a climate of 40-80 degrees F.

One Pound Red Wiggler Worms

Red wiggler worms (Eisenia fetida) are the worms recommended for composting both for their small size and mass amount of consumption. Red wigglers will consume about half of their body weight per day; thus 1 pound of worms will eat 1/2 pound per day. Worms will double their population in approximately three months. Over time, with more worms in your bin, you will be able to feed more often and in larger amounts. The 3-tray worm composting bin can hold roughly 10 pounds of worms at its maximum capacity. Worms will control their reproduction rates and do not need to be removed. 1 pound of worms = approximately 1,000 worms. Please note, worms require a climate between 40-80 degrees F.

Two Pounds Red Wiggler Worms

Coconut Coir Bricks, 5 count

Coconut coir retains moisture and mixes well with other worm beddings such as newspaper, dry leaves, or cardboard. Coir is compacted into bricks, and should be moist when added to worm bins. It is a sustainable product that is derived from the external husk of the coconut, and is a byproduct of the coconut industry. One brick will fit TWO 15"x15" worm bin trays. It is also recommended for use in bins that have become very wet or muddy, especially homemade bins.

Replacement Fabric, 2 pieces

Over time you may find that the original fabric provided with your worm bin will require replacement. The fabric is designed to allow moisture through to the spigot of the bin, but prevent worms from drowning or getting caught in spigot. This product includes two pieces of replacement fabric, measuring approximately 17"x17", and can be trimmed with scissors to fit bin.

Additional Trays

The 3-tray worm compost bin can support additional trays if you find you have more waste to compost. Each addtional tray will add approximately 3" of height to the bin, and allow for an additional 3-4 pounds of worms per tray (consuming 1-2 pounds of waste per day). Trays are made in the USA of post-consumer recycled plastic.

Replacement Roof

This uniquely designed roof can be added to many other commercial worm bins. The angled roof design helps to divert wind and allow rain to properly drain off without endangering worms. All the while, this roof allows full air circulation keeping worms strong and healthy. Made in the USA of post-consumer recycled plastic.

Bokashi Indoor Compost Kit

The Bokashi Composting process allows for the fermentation of meat, dairy, oils, and other foods that are not suitable for outdoor or worm composting systems. Simply lay down an initial layer of the Bokashi starter material, then place food scraps in the bin and thoroughly coat each food layer with the Bokashi starter material. Once the container is filled to capacity, let the scraps continue to ferment for two weeks and then bury the material in your garden, yard, or planter. Allow at least two more weeks for the fermentation process to continue in the soil before planting. Measures 16"h x 10"w x 10"d and is 10% recycled plastic, 70% post-consumer recycled plastic.
